Here is a Toronto home Paul Raff says is  "a marriage of environmentally responsible building strategies and elegant architectural composition."

They call it the "Cascade House," centered around an outdoor pool and designed with ceiling-high windows to take advantage of natural light and cut back on energy consumption.  Materials like slate are used to build walls that absorb heat from the incoming sunlight thus warming the interior of the home even after the sun goes down.
